夫は妻の重荷？

それは11月22日のことだった。
朝日新聞の天声人語にこんな事が書かれていた：
「お年寄りの場合、夫を亡くした妻は寿命が延びて、
妻を亡くした夫は寿命が縮む傾向があるらしい。」

Husbands are burden to wives ?

It was on Nov. 22, 2008.
(In Japan, this Nov 22 is a day of "good married couple".)
They look to read 11.22 as 「いいふうふ」（ii fufu).
At the column of Tensei Jingo (てんせいじんご）
of Asahi newspaper - looks enjoying
largest publication number in Japan -
I found a writing like this:

Among old Japanese people,
this tendency looks to be available:

"The wives who had lost their husband can live longer.
On the contrary, the husbands who got apart from their wife
by her death can live shorter."

The column writer wonders if a husband was
just a burden to her wife - nothing more ?
He asked to himself.

One cannot laugh at this column.
Perhaps there would be such a thing
happening among our Japanese society.

If a wife gets to be separate from her husband,
her beautiful new husband-free life -
released from the burden of having himself - could get started
and could enjoy less stressful life filled with joy !?

On the other hand, men in Japan devote themselves to works
(they do nothing at home) and as a result,
they would not be good at taking care of themselves all alone.

So, if they become solo after his wife's death,
they cannot control their daily life by themselves smartly -
most men are unable to do cooking by themselves
and well-balanced meals are not-expectable by themselves
and the life patterns are likely to be in disorder.
Such imaginable negative factors will make
their post-husband remaining-time-of-life shrunk.

This story might represent Japan as a whole,
it's never an exaggeration at all,
but exceptions are always available.
